This reference page is specifically for customers in the European Union to provide a resource to help you stay informed and plan ahead for the upcoming TPO ban.
Please note, markets outside of the EU are not affected by this restriction.
The European Union is banning the use of TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide), a UV photoinitiator. This ban includes cosmetic products, such as nail gels. The ban is effective starting September 1st, 2025. While not considered dangerous, or related to product safety or allergies, the EU is implementing this ban as a precautionary measure.
At Light Elegance, we have been aware of the upcoming EU restriction on TPO and have reformulated our products in preparation. As reformulations were completed, these reformulated products began shipping to our distribution partners in Europe, ahead of the ban. Only products that are TPO-Free are being shipped to the EU.
We have extensively tested our TPO-Free formulas and can confidently say there is no noticeable difference in wear, curing performance, color, shine, or durability.
Dear Valued Customers,
We’d like to provide you with an important update regarding the EU restriction on TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide), effective September 1, 2025. Please note, this restriction applies only to the European Union, and markets outside of the EU are not affected.
Light Elegance’s Proactive ResponseAt Light Elegance, we have been preparing for this change well in advance with the following actions:
Reformulated Products:All gels shipping to the EU are now TPO-Free and fully compliant. Some of our TPO-Free products may still list TPO on the packaging if the containers were printed before the new regulation took effect. Rest assured, all newly produced packaging reflects the change with no TPO listed.
Performance Tested:Our new formulas have been extensively tested and deliver the same trusted wear, shine, curing performance, and durability you expect from LE.
Updated Labeling:Secondary Label has been applied to bottles that are shipping to the EU and UK. Additional artwork or Secondary Labeling is available upon request. This ensures accurate and compliant ingredient listings without delaying supply or creating packaging waste. These labels should remain on all products as they reflect the registered formula for your market.
As always, our mission is to provide safe, innovative, and compliant products to professionals worldwide. If you have any questions or need additional resources, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at LEHQ.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping us elevate the nail industry together.
Warm regards,
The Light Elegance Team
To ensure the fastest possible roll-out of TPO-Free formulas for the EU market, an updated ingredients label is applied to applicable gel products. The new label covers the original ingredients list containing TPO, and correctly identifies the new, EU specific formula that is TPO-Free. For products in pots, the ingredients are always listed on the bottom of the pot using a similar white label. The labels for these products are updated based on the formula version specific to each market.
Producing entirely new packaging for every formula variation would result in significant delays and unnecessary environmental waste. Applying a secondary label ensures that EU clients receive compliant products as efficiently as possible.
The secondary ingredients label reflects the official, registered ingredients specific to your market and should not be removed.
These labels are essential for ensuring the correct ingredients are clearly displayed and that the product complies with local regulations. Removing them may cause confusion or misidentification of the product’s formulation.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us at LEHQ directly so we can best assist you.
